Easter: Easter, bunnies, chocolate and so much more© Wayne Dawe
(Note: The Internet is a dynamic place and web sites can come and
go quite quickly. This is one of my older and some of the links may not
work anymore. If you find that this is the case I invite you to look at
some of my more recent articles. My links section has my
favorite links from past articles and is checked regularly for non
working links. Wayne)
The other night I was watching the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and an actor came on and asked Jay why a bunny distributes Easter eggs. I thought that might be an interesting subject to research on the world wide web and that got me into an Easter frame of mind, so this week we get links about Easter and the traditions that surround it. Easter is the second big Christian religious festival in the year and like Christmas (which is the other one) has become a holiday that incorporates both secular and religious traditions. Some cynics might suggest that both Santa Claus and the Easter bunny have been hijacked by big business just to make a buck off of an otherwise religious observance. I'm not sure if I subscribe to that thesis but I do think that perhaps we as parents have gone a little too far with both the orgy of toys and chocolate that accompany these holidays. I think perhaps parents are as much to blame as big business by giving in to the guilt. Just look at the frenzy over tickle me Elmo that occurred this past Christmas. I don't think that giving into our kids is in their best interest. No that I'm finished my rant I have to admit that one corporate citizen who has provided a balanced view of Easter is Hallmark, Seasons and Reasons. This page provides an explanation of Easter traditions both secular and religious. They have illustrated parts of it with Hallmark cards but what else would you expect. There used to be some other sites here but they have ceased working guess you'll juts have to wait until March 27, 1998 when my first Easter article for this year is available. One other worthwhile site to visit is Easter Bunny Funzone. The final site I'm going to point you to this week is Easter in Cyberspace: A Christian Perspective. This site concentrates on the religious aspects of the Easter celebration and has links to Easter traditions, history, background, Easter graphic and other religious Easter pages. This site is not targeted towards children but there are many useful resources here for parents and teenagers. Go To Page: 1 2
