Trains, El Nino, Mr Toad's Wild Ride and more!© Wayne Dawe
Welcome back, I hope I can make your Internet browsing a little more
interesting and fun this week.
Early last year when I did an article on
Regular readers will know that I'm a big fan of Java games. The kids
section of the U.S. Coast Guard page has the Coastie Kids Java
Games. This site also has a kids chat area that is unsupervised but
does automatically remove some bad language you type in. As I was writing this article there was a piece on the radio about the
closing of Mr.
Toad's Wild Ride at Disney World in Florida on September 7th. Turns
out they are going to replace it with a Winnie the Pooh ride. This Toad
site has links to both the original and the Disney version of the story. Which one do
you prefer? I found a really neat Java applet this week at the NASA site JTrack - 3D pops up a separate window where you can click and drag,
highlight satellites and do other cool stuff. This one is a must see. I had been planning on doing a story on El Nino but never found the
right site that wasn't too boring but was also informative. This week
someone sent me the URL for El Nino - A Child of the
Tropics. This site is part of the ThinkQuest project. This Internet
based project and contest is for 12 to 19 year olds. Teams of two or
three create webpages as teaching and education tools for teachers and
students around the world. The last site for this week is The Slug Crossing.
This site will help you gardeners with recycle/reuse ideas for your
garden. The slug you see below came from this site. . If your need some more kid friendly sites check out some of my past articles
or drop in on Kids on
Suite101. This page gives you links to other kid friendly topics and
links on Suite 101. Well that's it for now, see you all next week.
