We live day-to-day, week-to-week and month to month, but do we ever give a thought as to how we named the days of the week and the months of the year? All names originate from something and many of the days and months of the year are named after some pretty impressive people and Gods, take a look. Days
- Sunday
- Named after the Sun. (Sun's-day)
- Monday - Named after the Moon. (Moon's Day)
- Tuesday - For the God of Tuetonic mythology, Tiw. (Tiw's - day)
- Wednesday - Named after the Teutonic god Wotan. (Wotan's - day)
- Thursday - Named after the Scandinavian God, Thor. (Thor's - day)
- Friday - After the Scandinavian goddess Frigg. (Frigg's - day)
- Saturday - After the planet Saturn. (Saturn's - day)
Months
- January - Janus. Roman god.
- February - Februa. Roman festival of purification.
- March - Mars. Roman god of war.
- April - 'Aprilis' Latin for 'to open.'
- May - Goddess Maia.
- June - Goddess Juno.
- July - Named after Julius Caeser.
- August - Named after Roman Emperor Augustus.
- September - 'Septem' latin for 'seven'.
- October - 'Octo' Latin for 'eight.'
- November - 'Nove' Latin for 'nine.'
- December - 'Decem' Latin for 'ten.'
