As for the candy that is left, you could let your child take the initiative as to what to do with it. You might suggest that it be donated or given away or you may offer to 'buy' it from your child so that they can still feel that they have benefited from their hard work of the night out. Childrenwithdiabetes.com has an excellent article on Halloween and how to deal with it when a child with diabetes is involved: http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/d_0n... is an excellent place to start before the big night arrives. This page also gives carbohydrate counts of some of the most common Halloween candies so that you can decide what to work into your child's diet. Remember that the most important thing about Halloween is that your child makes it through with a sense of normalcy and this can be done by emphasizing the fun of the night rather than the candy and the sweets.
