More -- much more -- from Direct Search

Since the early days of the journalism page here at Suite101.com, I've provided a link to Direct Search, a tremendously useful site maintained by Gary Price at George Washington University's library.

I'd recommend that you bookmark right now, if you haven't already. (You'll find it listed in the "Top Five Web Sites" section elsewhere in this category.) Direct Search offers a great collection of links to databases and assorted references from around the world. You'll find information here that you won't find at other resource sites and links that search engines won't generate.

I recently received an e-mail message from Price about some of the recent additions to the site. I spent a little time exploring the new sections, and I've decided to pass them along to Suite101.com's readers.

Direct Search has grown quite a bit since I first encountered it. In addition to the sections highlighted below, be sure to check out the list of other new categories posted on the site.

NewsCenter http://gwis2.circ.gwu.edu/~gprice/newsce...

You'll find this and other new/expanded categories in the line of gold boxes under "Other Internet Resource Compilations." Price says NewsCenter has become quite popular in recent weeks, and it's easy to see why.

Here you'll find extensive lists of links to news sources, including wire services, state AP feeds, front pages of major papers, business news, tech and science news, news search engines, and more.

Current Awareness Streaming Media http://gwis2.circ.gwu.edu/~gprice/audio.... http://gwis2.circ.gwu.edu/~gprice/majmkt...

I haven't seen a compilation as detailed as this one anywhere. These links will take you to sites that provide streaming media content on breaking news stories. There are also extensive lists of links to public affairs and special events programming, including National Public Radio and shows dealing with activities in quite a few state legislatures. Among other things, you'll also find links to academic lectures and -- pretty cool -- live video coverage from the United Nations.

Speech and Transcript Center http://gwis2.circ.gwu.edu/~gprice/speech...

Want to hear it straight from the horse's mouth? Here you'll find links to speeches from public officials and business leaders from around the world. Among the great resources here are links to historic speeches and links to recent speeches from governors across the United States.

Price's List of Lists http://gwis2.circ.gwu.edu/~gprice/listof... Wanna know who ranks? Here's an amazingly long list of lists--the Fortune 500, the top-paid executives, the top 100 contractors, the 100 most-challenged books, and on an on. You name it, and I'd wager it's here. Business reporters and editors, I suspect, would find it especially useful.
