More jobs for journalists

© Daryl Lease

At this writing, the economy's still humming, albeit a bit maniacally at times. Trade publications report that job hunting has seldom been more profitable for journalists, especially those making the leap from print to digital.

In previous columns, I've passed along a dozen or so Web sites that I've found useful for job searches. The most recent roundup generated several suggestions from readers.

Below are some of those recommendations. As always, I'd welcome e-mail from folks who know of other good sites I haven't mentioned yet.

www.journalismjobs.com

This site, created by former Washington Post journalist Don Rohn and run in conjunction with the Columbia Journalism Review, is probably the most comprehensive I've encountered.

Among other things, you can look up available jobs or post your resume for prospective employers to check out. Listings are available for online media, newspapers, wire services, radio and more. Click on "about us" to learn more about the site and the employers who've searched the resumes.

www.mediabistro.com

This site, formerly known as hireminds.com, offers job listings for print and online media, a bulletin board for job seekers to post questions, and more. The site appears to be under construction at this writing, but it looks promising.

www.elance.com

If you're interested in free-lance work on a full-time or part-time basis, be sure to stop at this site. Here, writers and other professionals place bids on job opportunties. The writing assignments cover a wide range of print and online jobs. I've posted a couple of unsuccessful bids, but the site looks quite active and, I assume, is linking up others. Writers with a background in Web design might find it particularly useful.

Here's a September 1999 column from Suite101.com's archives. You'll find links to job sites operated by the Detroit Free Press, the American Society of Newspaper Editors and the Newspaper Association of America, among others.

Another oldie from the Suite101.com archives, offering links to job sites run by Editor & Publisher, the American Journalism Review and Cyber Oasis, among others. (Skip the Newsmait site; it's a dead link.)
