For news junkies like me, one of the pleasures of the Internet is the ability to read newspapers that I can't find at a local newstand, drug store, or bookstore, or that I can't afford to buy at marked-up prices.
It's a treat to dial into the Internet and, for no charge, open the pages of the Chicago Tribune, the Dallas Morning News, the Seattle Times, or some other paper many, many miles from my home. Often, I'll visit these papers or others to read a columnist whose work I admire but can't find in papers in my corner of the world. In some cases, the columnists aren't syndicated. In other cases, they're syndicated but my close-to-home papers don't carry them. Lately, I've started to skip calling up the URLs of individual papers. Instead I turn to one of many one-stop-shopping sites that provide direct links to dozens or even hundreds of columnists. Below are a few sites that I use frequently. If you know of others, please feel free to add them to the "discussion" section or send me an e-mail. This site has one of the most extensive list of columnists (more than 400) I've seen. The links will take you to major syndicated columnists as well as an enjoyable mix of lesser known writers. The rest of the site is worth exploring, too, with links to editorial cartoonists, political Web sites and more. http://www.toad.net/~andrews/columns.html This collection, part of Web Sites for Journalists, also offers a long list of columnists. They're grouped by newspapers and individually. It's an easy-to-navigate site, with useful notes on each paper and columnist. Be sure to scroll down the bottom of the page and click "contents" to visit the rest of Web Sites for Journalists. You'll find quite a few useful links gathered by Allan R. Andrews, an editor with Stars & Stripes. The listings here aren't as extensive as they are at Blue Eagle, but you certainly won't go without something to read. The list includes many of the major syndicated columnists, and -- unlike Blue Eagle -- each column carries a headline. The webmaster pledges to update daily. http://www.opinion-pages.org/ccc-search.... Here you can search for your favorite columnists by category--political/general, business/finance, technology, life/living, and sports. Hundreds of columnists are indexed daily. You can also search by keywords, in case you ever care to compare what various pundits are saying about the issues of the day. Go To Page: 1
