Our Hectic Schedule

Mar 1, 2001 - © Rachel Vardis

I go to http://www.puzzlemaker.com and make up a crossword or word search puzzle based on their vocabulary words for the S.S. lesson as extra work for them. They like these very much. I make them online then copy the picture to my word processor along with the word list or definitions, change the fonts, and add clipart for them.

Bible is done weekly based on the Torah portion but I also have other worksheets I got offline for them that are activity based as well. For example, for Noah and the flood, there were symbols to decode to read what G-d promised never to do again (flood the earth). Those are fun too for them. Penmanship they like a little but they are learning to write in cursive. I use Rod and Staff for this. The entire lesson plan is based on birds so I thought I couldn't go wrong; at least not for $4.50! So far, there is no xtian oriented trash.

Lunch time!
By lunchtime (12 P.M.), they should have done at least 2.5 subjects. They get one hour to eat and play outside. Afterwards, they come back in and we finish the rest of their work and the girls take their nap -- or should I say rest since they don't want to sleep anymore. Sometimes, they sleep, but most of the time, they giggle and play across the cribs at each other. Now it is Joshua and Jonathan's turn to do their work. I have to take turns explaining or instructing so I don't get burned out. I start with Joshua and explaining what he needs to do and let him do it. Then I turn to Jonathan and we "learn" together. Then back to Joshua and so forth until they are done. Total time for both is about 2.5 hours.

After schoolwork is done for day, I begin dinner. That is, if I didn't already start something in the crockpot earlier that day! I get the girls out of their cribs and allow the boys to play outside again if they are done with their work. If they left anything unfinished from the day's work, now is their time to finish it. After dinner, they bathe and are in bed by 9 P.M.

I will add that we are a little behind the public school. We started late last year (September instead of August) and took off too
