Have you ever thought about racing your PWC? The International Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA) sponsors over 500 racing events around the world each year under the IJSBA sanction. They offer racing classes for all levels of skill from amateur to expert. There are also several novice and beginner classes which you can enter at a discounted fee of around $30. The fee to race in most payout classes is $40. With even the most novice jet skier entering an IJSBA sanctioned event, it is not uncommon for local events to attract several hundred entrants who want to give it a try.
But what will you need in order to race with the big dogs? First you will have to purchase a competition level membership with the IJSBA. This can be obtained on-line at the PWC Zone. You will also need: (1) a watercraft approved by the IJSBA; (2) a U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device; (3) a properly fitted, full-coverage helmet with chin and mouth protection; and (4) to familiarize yourself with the IJSBA Official Competition Rule Book and all subsequent revisions. You should also use eye protection, back protection and protective footwear, although these are not required. You may be a little apprehensive about racing your PWC. Check out the Jet Ski Racing homepage. This site has wonderful information on getting started in racing and includes a description of a typical race day, photos, schedules, registration information and even conditioning tips to ensure that you are in the proper physical shape to race. Good Luck! Catch you on the waves! Karen K. Patton Go To Page: 1
