Spring Has Sprung


In most parts of the world, spring has sprung and it is time to hit the waves!! You may think that all you have to do is pull your PWC out of the garage, wipe off the cobwebs and head to the lake. But, before you back that trailer down the ramp, you should do a little spring maintenance on your PWC. You can do it yourself. It is inexpensive and it takes less than an hour. With just a little maintenance, your PWC will give you more trouble free hours of fun!

A 12-Step Program to Get Your Season Started Off Right by Personal Watercraft Illustrated is a great article that outlines the twelve (12) basic steps of preseason preparation that you should follow to ensure that your PWC is ready to hit the water. As the article explains, it is a good idea to not only check your PWC, but also your gear and trailer.

Good to Go by R&R Jet Tech News is an informative article covering pre-ride and post-ride inspections and tips on storing your PWC when it's not in use. It is a good idea to do a quick inspection of your PWC and gear each time you use your PWC. These mental checklists don't take long and can help you avoid problems when you are out on the water.

The Personal Watercraft Information Center has a great interactive site where you can ask questions and read articles on the care and maintenance of your PWC. You can post a question or show off your technical prowess by sharing your knowledge and answering a question posted by another jet skier. This site contains information from around the world.

Although special tools aren't necessary to maintain your PWC, Tools to Keep Your PWC Running Smoothly by PWC Magazine lists the tools and materials that you should have on hand to make minor repairs and perform simple maintenance on your PWC. This article not only lists the items, but also includes a short description of what they can be used for and why it is important to include them in your tool box. Of course the list includes duct tape! You can fix anything with duct tape, right?

Last but not least, this is always a good time to go over PWC safety and refresh your memory about the rules of the water. It is also a good idea not to go too far out on the first run of the season. Take it easy and make sure everything is in order before you cut up the water on a 50 mile ride!
