It is that time again! A time to walk along the fiberglass and dream. It is time for the annual boat shows. We went to the Houston Boat Show last night where I drooled at the sight of the shiny new 1998s and dreamt of cutting the water aboard Yamaha's new musclecraft - the Yamaha WaveRunner GP1200. But with so many choices, how do you know which PWC is right for you?
It is definitely best to "know before you go." Purchasing a Personal Watercraft by Keith Bush of Personal Watercraft Illustrated is an excellent article which discusses comparison shopping, where to buy a PWC, the pros and cons of buying a used PWC and how to get the best deal. It also includes a checklist so that you will know exactly what you are looking for from a PWC.
There are several sites which include Buyer's Guides to help you compare the different manufacturers and the different models. There is a lot to choose from. Not only are there several top manufacturers of PWCs, but there are more and more models to choose from. There are deluxe 3-seaters, performance 3-seaters, recreational 3-seaters, high-performance and recreational runabouts, musclecrafts and standups. Personal Watercraft Zone Buyer's Guide includes a comprehensive Buyer's Guide for 1997 and 1998 PWCs with information on Yamaha, Sea Doo, Kawasaki, Polaris, Tigershark and Wetjet.
