Memorial Day has come and gone and another summer has officially begun! This may be the year that you finally purchase a personal watercraft or perhaps you need to trade in that old model for one of the sleek new 2000 models offered this year by the four personal watercraft manufacturers.
Although Tiger Shark has dropped out of the PWC market, the remaining four manufacturers - Kawasaki, Polaris, SeaDoo and Yamaha - are offering consumers 32 watercraft to choose from this year. The 2000 line-up offers 2 four-seaters, 14 three-seaters (if you realistically categorize Polaris' Genesis machines as three-seaters and not four-seaters), 14 two-seaters and 2 stand-ups. With this many choices, it may be hard to determine which PWC is right for you. But, with a little research and the help of some on-line Buyer's Guides, the choice can be made a little easier. Kawasaki came to the market with 5 watercrafts this year. Their watercrafts are broken down into 3 categories - Family, Sport and Stand-Up. The Kawasaki site has specifications, an image and video library and reviews for each of their watercraft. New for Kawasaki this year is the 1100 STX D.I., a three-seater PWC featuring Kawasaki's first direct-injected personal watercraft with the patented Ficht Fuel Injection technology. Kawasaki is still one of only two manufacturers (the other one being Yamaha) to offer a stand-up in their line of watercrafts. The Jet Ski SXi Pro is still one of Kawasaki's most popular and powerful machines.
Polaris offers 8 watercrafts for 2000 - 2 in each of the four categories which include Full-Size, Mid-Size, Runabout and Race. The Polaris site lists the features, tech specifications, comparisons (to other Polaris crafts as well as the competition) and reviews of each model. Two new machines for Polaris this year are the Virage and the Virage TX (formerly known as the SLTH and SLTX, respectively). If you are still unsure which Polaris is right for you after reading all of this information, fill out the Rider Profile and Polaris will recommend the top two Polaris machines which best match who you are and how you ride. With the highest number of watercrafts in the 2000 line-up, SeaDoo has broken down their eleven different models into four categories - Three-Seaters, Four-Seaters, Performance Two-Seaters, and Recreational Two-Seaters. For each of these watercrafts, SeaDoo provides specifications, features, comparisons (to other SeaDoo watercraft only), action shots, studio shots, movies, and even complementary SeaDoo apparel to ensure that you look great on the water. SeaDoo has 3 new watercraft this year - the LRV, GTX Di and RX. The LRV is SeaDoo's first four-seater which is 13 feet in length with 180 gallons of storage. The GTX Di is a three-seater with SeaDoo's Orbital Direct Injection technology. Instead of the Ficht system, SeaDoo has opted for the Orbital technology to provide fuel efficiency and reduction of emissions. Also new this year, and available on the GTX Di, is the Learning Key feature, which limits RPM's and top speed for less-experienced riders. The RX Di (the RX with Orbital direct injection) has the distinction of being named Watercraft of the Year by Watercraft World. But, if you are still unsure which SeaDoo is best for you, fill out the short questionnaire and SeaDoo will help you find the SeaDoo watercraft that is right for you.
