A Member of the ClubRecently I have heard from a couple of people who are organizing new PWC Clubs in their area. While this takes a lot of work and dedication, it is a very worthwhile endeavor. PWC Clubs are wonderful venues to meet and associate with people who have common interests, but they have also proven to be a useful tool in promoting a positive image for the sport. We have all heard the criticism that has been levied against PWCs recently. It seems the forces are rallying in an effort to have PWCs banned from more and more waterways. Perhaps with the proliferation of more PWC Clubs, PWC enthusiasts can unite and fight back. Most PWC Clubs have a Code of Ethics or rules which govern their Club in an effort to promote courteous boating and PWC safety. The Arizona Jet Ski Club based in Phoenix, Arizona, is just getting started, but plans to offer safety classes to all of its members. Already the Arizona Jet Ski Center, responsible for organizing the Arizona Jet Ski Club, holds a Jet Ski Safety walk through each year on one of their local channels to help inform everyone on the safety procedures that help save lives. PWC Luxembourg is taking a proactive approach to water safety by policing their own. The authorities in Luxembourg are currently trying to ban the use of PWCs on the Mosel River which borders Luxembourg, France and Germany. PWC Luxembourg is trying to work out a deal with the authorities to give the jet skiers a portion of the River where they can ride and work with authorities to stop the misuse of the River by those who drive dangerously. PWC Clubs also give back to the community by hosting events that benefit the many worthwhile charities in their area. Southern California Riverrunners Personal Watercraft Club has an event each year to benefit one of their local charities. This year they are sponsoring a Poker Run to benefit Guide Dogs for the Blind. This past June, the Piedmont Personal Watercraft Club in North Carolina sponsored The Ride for the CureĀ®, a local fundraising project to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. They held a Poker Run around Lake Norman, North Carolina with all proceeds going to the the Komen Charlotte Race for the CureĀ®. Coast 2 Coast 2000 is another new Club which is off to a great start in the New Jersey - New York area. Coast 2 Coast 2000 was created to promote safe, fun jet skiing for the recreational PWC owner. Their site is informative not only for the PWC owners in the New Jersey - New York area, but for PWC owners all over the world. They are one of the many clubs who want to make sure that PWC enthusiasts are aware of the legislative issues concerning PWCs in their area. PWC Clubs are finding that by organizing they can be heard and create alliances with their local governing bodies. There is strength in numbers.
