Located near the central Kentucky-Tennessee border are two of the most beautiful man-made lakes in the United States--Lake Cumberland and Dale Hollow Lake.
Lake Cumberland Lake Cumberland is located on the Cumberland River in south central Kentucky. The lake has 30,000 acres of clear blue-green water with 1,225 miles of shoreline. The scenery of rocky cliffs and lush green forests, as seen from the water, is spectacular. Lake Cumberland is a great place for exploring. Seventy-Six Falls is a favorite gathering place for boaters, and jet skiers can ride behind and even through the waterfall. There are also many secluded waterfalls hidden in the numerous inlets on the lake, some of which are only accessible by jet ski. If you want to take a tour of the lake without the jet ski, you can ride the Jamestown Queen, a 19th century paddle-wheeler which features daytime cruises around the lake and evenings on the moonlit water, complete with a first-class meal and live musical entertainment. Two of the larger marinas on Lake Cumberland are Jamestown Marina and the marina at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park. There are full service facilities at both marinas, including restaurants and lodging ranging from rustic cabins to lodge suites. House boats are also available for rent and make a great base camp after a day of jet skiing. The Lake Cumberland Directory has a wealth of information on Lake Cumberland and the surrounding area. Dale Hollow Lake Dale Hollow Lake is located in an area encompassing south central Kentucky and north central Tennessee which is known for wild, rugged country in the southern foothills of the Cumberland Mountains. The 28,000 acre lake has 620 miles of shoreline. The waters at Dale Hollow Lake are exceptionally clear. Dale Hollow State Resort Park is Kentucky's newest state resort park and is located in the Wolf River Valley along the Wolf River tributary to the Obey River. Both the Wolf River and the Obey River (in Tennessee) are largely absorbed into vast Dale Hollow Lake. The Park includes 3,400 acres of southern Kentucky wilderness. The Dale Hollow Lake Map provides an excellent look at the lake and the many inlets and islands which embody the lake. The Dale Hollow Lake Marina is operated by the Kentucky Department of Parks and offers a variety of facilities and services. Kentucky The Kentucky state parks are some of the cleanest and most beautiful in the United States and because they are located in protected forestlands, you will see plenty of wildlife. It is not unusual to see 20 - 30 deer at dusk when the deer come out to feed. For more information on Kentucky, see the Official Kentucky Vacation Guide. Go To Page: 1 2
