Since it's inception in 1982, the International Jet Sports Boating Association (IJSBA) Skat-Trak World Finals has been held at Lake Havasu City, Arizona - that is until this year. Earlier this year, the IJSBA announced that this year the World Finals will be held at Mission Bay Park in San Diego, California from October 10-17, 1999. Mission Bay Park's Fiesta Island is the planned site for this event and is located just minutes from downtown San Diego.
With an expected 750 racers from 36 countries competing in the annual event, the IJSBA Skat-Trak World Finals has experienced dramatic growth in recent years. Last year approximately 38,000 spectators attended this eight-day event. Whether you plan on being one of the masses who attends this annual event or you just want to take your PWC out for a weekend ride, Mission Bay Park in San Diego is a great place to slice up the water. Mission Bay is an aquatic park covering 4,600 acres - approximately half land and half water. There are 27 miles of shoreline, 19 of which are sandy beaches. The Department of Parks and Recreation offers information on Mission Bay's recreational activities and its numerous beaches. The City of San Diego has an excellent web site which contains several charts with useful information such as the location of fuel docks, launching ramps and marinas. These informative charts feature the ability to access additional information on a particular area with a click of the mouse. Of course, while you are in Mission Bay, you'll want to follow the rules In addition to the rules and regulations of the park, this site also contains phone numbers for several hotels, marinas and emergency and weather information.
