What's Happening? - 1999 Calendar of Events

Did you ever wonder if there was more to life than doing 360's on your Personal Watercraft? Or if there were other places to ride? As the popularity of PWC's grows, there are more and more organized events to watch and participate in. Here are a few ideas of some fun things to do on your PWC this summer.

Even if you only use your PWC for pleasure, you may want to spend a day at the races! The IJSBA has released their 1999 Race Schedule, which includes the dramatic move of the Skat-Trak World Finals from its location of the last 17 years, Lake Havasu City, to Mission Bay, San Diego. The 1999 BP Racing-Off-Shore Endurance Racing Schedule has also been released. These races are very exciting for any PWC enthusiast, whether you enter an amateur competition or just watch the pros. There are not only racing events, but some races feature freestyle competitions which will have you on your PWC saying how did they do that? I highly recommend attending one of these races. It is a great chance to see the best in action, mingle with other PWC enthusiasts, and check out some PWC paraphernalia. You can view the races from the shore or, at some locations, in the water from your own PWC.

Discovery River Tours has announced their 1999 tour schedule. Discovery River Tours offers all-inclusive river tours in the southeast region of the United States. These tours include delicious food, first-class lodging, commemorative photo and T-shirt. Discovery River Tours will get you safely down the river with a land support crew to service your fuel needs, refreshments, snacks, riverside lunches, and a safe dry shuttle for your luggage. Discover River Tours is currently offering 2-, 3- or 4-day cruises, but are constantly researching new and exciting tours, including a 7-day, 450-mile trip from the Tennessee River to Mobile, Alabama.

The PWC Zone has a Calendar of Events featuring United States and International events. PWC clubs and other organizations post the events for their region. Racing events are also posted. Local PWC Clubs also post their upcoming events. For information on the local PWC club in your area, check out PWC Club USA. It is usually easy to find something going on in your area.

Finally, many local PWC retailers sponsor events to raise interest in their area. In the past, retailers have sponsored amateur races and relay events and even charity events. Club Wave Waterfests are sponsored by local Yamaha dealers. Their events often include a huge barbecue, live music, events for the kids, poker runs, freestyle events, relays and timed buoy course competitions with prizes being awarded to the top teams and riders. They also give the public an opportunity to demo ride the new Yamaha watercrafts. For the past two years, the Hudson River SEA DOO Dealers have sponsored Escape from New York. This is a charity event, which features a PWC poker run benefiting the American Diabetes Association. You can phone the organizers at the numbers listed on their site to see when the event will be held in 1999.
