been other, more successful, recorded sessions, including several which took place in Paris, under Eldridge’s leadership, during 1950-51 (Little Jazz Paris Season) relating to his European trip with Benny Goodman. There were also excellent recreations of Krupa’s earlier days as bandleader in his own right (The Big Band Sound of Gene Krupa) . There have been successful sessions with Joe Turner (Nobody In Mind) and Count Basie (Count Basie Jam Session At The Montreux Jazz Festival 1975) .

Of records issued under his own name, best by far has been the Nitty Kitty Cat, which combines all the virtues of his younger days with the maturity of the 60-year-old he was at the time of recording. Roy ‘Little Jazz’ Eldridge still retains most of those elements, which long ago made him acknowledged giant of jazz, as well as the vital link between those two other great trumpet stylists, Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie.
