Attack on Jane!Elizabeth refuses another proposal, this time from Mr. Darcy himself. Far from wanting to be 'saved' and being grateful to receive the proposal, she is disgusted by his low opinion of her 'vulgar' family and gives him a lecture. She calls him 'ungentlemanly', his first lesson in realizing his pride. Elizabeth, of course, falls in love with Mr. Darcy eventually but not because of his wealth. It is because she realizes that he has overcome his pride, he is intelligent and he has a good heart. His money helps, of course, but it doesn't influence Elizabeth to accept him in the first place. Perhaps Ms Odone should read the book again!
