Florence in the FallAutumn is a great time to visit Italy - the summer crush of tourists is over, and the grapes are being harvested. If you can handle the possibility of a little cool, rainy weather, it's a wonderful season for Mediterranean travel. If you plan on heading to Florence anytime soon, here are a few sites to help you plan your trip, and a few side trips you might want to take as well. Standard disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with any of these sites or businesses! They are just interesting places that I have found during my online travels. If you'd rather not stand in long lines at the Uffizi, visit the "Weekend a Firenze" site at http://www.waf.it - it offers a booking service that allows you to buy advance tickets to the Uffizi, the Accademia, the Bargello, and many other Florentine attractions. Tickets for all these attractions can be purchased online, then picked up on the day of your visit. For oenophiles, Grape Adventures - http://www.grapeadventures.com/nindex.ht... - offers affordable winery day trips from Florence, as well as a range of other activities including Jewish heritage tours, Florence walking tours, and art classes. Custom winery tours are also available, some of them led by a Master of Wine. Visit "Go Tuscany" - http://www.firenze.net/events/ - for a listing of upcoming events that will coincide with your trip. This is an extensive, up to date events calendar, and contains contact information for many of the featured organizations. It also offers a detailed article on the weather at various times of year - http://www.firenze.net/events/pract/weat... - which includes links to current weather conditions. If you've got romance on the brain, check out "Italy Weddings" at http://www.italyweddings.com - this Florence-based site contains all the information you need to plan a wedding in Italy, including a list of necessary legal documents (tailored to American couples). A complete wedding planning service is available through this company. At "Firenze by Net" - http://www.mega.it/map/maptosca.htm - you will find clear, printable maps of Florence's monuments, shopping, and other services (including parking lots). Also take a look at the "Time Out" Florence and Tuscany Guide, at http://193.119.79.18:81/TO/Florence/Guid... to find a selection of information, including restaurant reviews, a shopping directory, and suggestions for child-friendly activities, among other topics. What is your favorite sight in Florence? Your favorite view? (Mine is the view from the cemetery wall at San Miniato...) Your favorite café, restaurant or wine bar? Drop me a line and let me know - I may be headed back that way before too long, and I'm always looking for new places to visit.
