The Mediterranean Food, Travel, and Life Summer Reading List!

In the last week or so, I have been trying to put together my summer reading "wish list." I may never get the time to actually READ any or all of these books, but I'm an optimist, so I'm starting to search them out, and line them up on my shelf as I find them. Yes, it's summertime, and I'm feeling lazy - so I'm going to get out of the kitchen and away from the computer, and stretch out on the couch with a good book for a change! Anyway, here's the short list:

Books about food:

A Mediterranean Feast : Celebrated Cuisines from the Merchants of Venice to the Barbary Corsairs. Clifford A. Wright - to be released in 1999.

I don't know exactly when this book is coming out, but it looks fascinating! I found the title serendipitously, while searching an online bookstore for a different title - now I just have to wait until it's available, hopefully before the end of summer.

Mediterranean Grains and Greens : A Book of Savory, Sun-Drenched Recipes. Paula Wolfert.

I love her Moroccan cookbooks, and this might help me to add more healthy stuff to my own diet, and that of my veg-o-phobic husband! Any cookbook by Paula Wolfert is definitely worth reading.

Diary of a Tuscan Chef : Recipes & Memories of Good Times and Great Food. Cesare Casella, Eileen Daspin.

This looks WONDERFUL! A seasonal approach to Tuscan food, presented in diary format. I've read lots of wonderful reviews of this book - now I am looking forward to the book itself.

Dolci Toscani : The Book of Tuscan Desserts. Anne Bianchi (Introduction), Sandra Lotti.

I can't resist a good dessert cookbook, and this one looks like a good read as well. The authors are partners in the Toscana Saporita Cooking School in Tuscany (http://www.cyberstudio.it/saporita), and the book contains 126 mostly traditional Tuscan recipes.

Books about people and places:

Tuscany Interiors. Paolo Rinaldi, Angelika Taschen.

A gorgeous coffee table book for armchair travellers and decorators. It's in English, German, AND French, so I'll be brushing up my language skills as I read!

A Tuscan Childhood. Kinta Beevor.

The memoir of an expatriate childhood in Tuscany. The author was the child of English artists who took her to Tuscany in 1916, and the book focuses on the years between the two world wars.

Bella Tuscany : The Sweet Life in Italy. Frances Mayes.

Another memoir, with lots of food-related content. The book is a companion to Under the Tuscan Sun - I haven't read that one either, so I have lots of catching up to do!
