Muslim Rights Not Negotiable

The status of Jerusalem is a very thorny issue in the peace negotiations. The two sides have already gone into the summit with strongly opposing views. Israel insists Jerusalem is its "undivided and eternal capital," and the Palestinians see East Jerusalem, captured by Israel in 1967, as the capital of a Palestinian state. Both leaders have set a mid-September deadline for a final deal, one Palestinians hope will be complete and acceptable. Arafat has already made it clear that he will unilaterally declare an independent Palestinian state if Israel does not agree to a state by the mid-September deadline. *American Muslim Council (AMC); American Muslim Foundation (AMF); American Muslims for Jerusalem (AMJ), Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR); Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP); Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA); Islamic Society of North America (ISNA); Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC).
