"Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, And that you be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in your life, Say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, But address them in terms of honor. And out of kindness, Lower to them the wing of humility, and say: 'My Lord! bestow on them Your Mercy as they Cherished me in childhood' " (Quran 17:23-24). For believing Muslims, appreciating one's mother doesn't come only on Mother's day. It comes everyday. While Americans celebrated Mother’s Day, this year mothers of all backgrounds came together for an important cause. This past Mother’s Day not only marked a holiday honoring mothers nationwide but also the Million Mom March on the Mall in Washington, D.C. set out to educate the country about guns and pass gun control legislation. The Million Mom March was organized to convince Congress to enact a law requiring that all gun owners be licensed and registered, including mandatory safety training. The event brought together 750,000 marchers in Washington, D.C., as well as tens of thousands of marchers showing their support across the country, many among them Muslims moms and families. Everyday, 12 children die from gunshot wounds. If you would like to become a member of the Million Mom March or learn more about the organization and what you can do, visit: http://www.millionmommarch.com/
