While it may be true that providing spiritual guidance for a child is best at a young age, the process is by no means over at any certain stage of the child’s development. The absence of parental and spiritual guidance can leave a child vulnerable to other influences. In today’s fast paced society what is missing from family lives is constant communication. Even designating quality time to be spent communicating with one’s child away from such distractions as the television is a step in the right direction. Without continuous communication between the parent and child an important bond may be lost which may prove difficult to retrieve.

Parents owe it to their children to be there for them, talk to them, support them, advise them, and guide them. When the parent is absent, asking WHY such a senseless crime was committed at Columbine High School, is what is most senseless.
