Hornish Wins Again in Miami

Sam Hornish is on a roll. Two races, two wins. What more could you ask, other than for the rest of the season to go as well as these first two races? For Hornish, it's the beginning of a big year that could see his face engraved on the Borg-Warner Trophy this year. The big news coming out of Miami, however, is who finished second. As a hint, let me say that I wrote about her when she first came up in the IRL. That's right, HER. Sarah Fisher came close to winning, and if she continues to develop like she has over the past year, actually could have a shot at winning the big one Memorial Day. This young lady has all the talent in the world, and is learning more and more each week. Of course, Hornish has one factor on his side that she doesn't. That's his spotter, 17-year Indy 500 veteran Pancho Carter. Carter came onboard with the Panther Racing Team last year and his experience gives the 21-year-old Hornish a real edge when it comes to dealing with the tough situations that come up on the track. In third place at Miami was Eliseo Salazar, who was racing professionally before either Hornish or Fisher were even born. Had it not been for the experience of Pancho Carter upstairs, Salazar might have won the race, but those years of experience paid off and on lap 186 Hornish was able to slip by and take the lead for good. Of course, Salazar has an old master in his garage too, since his team is owned by none other than A.J. Foyt. There have been a lot of great battles between Pancho and A.J. in the past, and it looks like that old rivalry reappeared in Miami. On this day, however, Pancho won out, something no one did very much of against A.J. Foyt. Perhaps at Indy, the tables will turn, and A.J. will pick up his 6th Indianapolis 500 championship ring. Before that can happen though, the teams have to make it through Atlanta on April 28. I'd look for a new winner there, and my prediction is that it could very well be Al Unser Jr. "Little Al" has had his share of problems this season, but I think he's due and he's hungry to have some success before heading to the Brickyard in May. Whoever wins, however, the days leading up to the Indianapolis 500 will be full of activity and I'll be here to bring it all to you on Suite 101.
