It's Time to party......

Kenny Brack is traveling smoothly down the long road to recovery after his horrific crash which prematurely ended the October 12th Chevy 500 season finale at Texas Motor Speedway. As this item is being written, plans are being made to move him to Indianapolis, Indiana where he will begin the long rehabilitation process.

As most of you know by now, Brack suffered fractures to both ankles, right thigh, sternum, lower back, and upper spine. After watching the crash, I'm amazed that he managed to survive at all. There's a lot to be said for the safety systems for the IRL cars, and also the safety and medical crew that speedily assists drivers who have fallen by the wayside.

If anyone wants to speculate whether the 37 year old Swedish driver will race again, they're certainly free to do so. His wife Anita claims that she assumes that he will continue to race and fulfill his life long ambition, but even she can't answer the question that's on a lot of our minds. Only Kenny can answer that by climbing back into the cockpit of an IndyCar racer.

The 2003 Indy racing League Championship Celebration is set to go at the Epcot Center at Walt Disney World Resort on Saturday, October 25th. The celebration will be in the honor of the 2003 series champion Scott Dixon, awarding him the 2003 championship trophy, and the one million dollar bonus. This is the first IRL Championship for the 23 year old Auckland, New Zealand driver of the Target/Ganassi Racing's No. 9 Toyota.

The IRL has announced that Jason Priestly, the actor who starred on the 90" TV show "90210," will emcee the awards show. Priestly was into open wheel racing, acting as a commentator for the 2001 IndyCar Series on ABC/ESPN. He was seriously injured while racing in the 2002 Infinity Pro Series. If I remember correctly, he suffered multiple fractures to his legs, and hasn't race professionally since.

The Bombardier Rookie of the Year Award will be presented to Dan Wheldon, who piloted the No. 26 Klein Tools/Andretti Green racing's Honda during the 2003 IRL campaign. Wheldon won the award besting the five other rookies in the field with a total of 312 rookie points. Roger Yasukawa, driver of the No. 55 Panasonic/ARTA Honda was second with 301 points, followed by AJ Foyt IV who finished the rookie standings with 198 points.
