July 29 to August 2
The seminar will be held in the Discussion Threads at the Investing Forum on Suite101.com, http://www.suite101.com/discussion.cfm/i...
Format:
Each day of the seminar, a topic for discussion will be presented along with a brief supporting excerpt from Investing With Giants. Feel free to ask any questions you like -- you don't have to stick to the topic of the day. Your questions will be collected with those of participants all over the world. The next day, you will receive a complete Q&A thread, along with a new topic for discussion.
This "threaded discussion" format leads to more thoughtful answers than online chat, and allows you to participate at your convenience rather than at a specific time. Online seminars can be dynamic, feisty, educational, and entertaining. They're a great opportunity to consult with industry experts (at no charge) as well as network with colleagues. We invite you to register and see for yourself.
Topics:
Linda Mead will not recommend the stocks of specific companies during the seminar. She'll help you decide how to evaluate stocks, but she won't share "hot tips" that get so many investors in trouble by thinking the wrong way about investing. Here is the topic list -- but remember, you can ask any questions you want:
Monday, July 29
One Night Stands Can Be Expensive
The first thing you should know about investing is that transaction costs eat up profits. Jumping into and out of the market increases your risk and exposure. Linda welcomes questions about commissions, management fees, churn, and other dangers of short-term financial affairs.
Tuesday, July 30
The Rules: What Every Woman Wants in a Stock
Most of us are looking for the same thing: an instrument that may have its ups and downs, but is reliable, satisfying, and safe over the long haul. Linda will explain the "Five Year Rule" and take questions about how you can tell whether a stock will go the distance.
Wednesday, July 31
Investigating the Company: The Annual Report
Before you settle down with a stock, you should investigate its past a little. Linda will talk about how to read an annual report, including where the "dirty laundry" is kept. She welcomes questions about what matters and what's fluff, and how to use ratios to compare the performance of any stock against itself or other stocks.
