Terrorists Attack the US

I will never forget this morning as I got up and turned on the TV about 5:45AM PST to watch the pre market activity on CNBC. The futures were down a bit and one of the World Trade Center, WTC, towers was ablaze. As I sipped my coffee and logged into this site, I saw a fireball come out of the 2nd WTC tower! An airliner had flown into the World Trade Center in NY! Word soon came that the Pentagon was also on fire as an airliner had crashed into it also. The futures dropped like a rock as they had not yet announced closing the markets. As I watched and listened in horror, first came the reports of people jumping out of the building to escape the fire and then the WTC towers collapsed as if in a movie.

My thoughts were sadness for the thousands of innocent lives lost, anger towards the cowards that participated in the terrorist act and a desire to do something to help. I started discussion threads for it here at Suite101.com so I could discuss it with my cyber friends and we could use the discussion to filter the news and keep those at an office informed as details became better known.

Don't Let the Bastards Win!

The Terrorist attack was one against the financial and military symbols of the US as well as the innocent people murdered.

Don't let them win!

• I called my blood bank and made an appointment to donate blood.
• I will buy stocks if the market drops whenever it reopens.
• I will support President Bush in what he asks us to do.

Let us discuss ideas on how we can support our country here.

2nd Pearl Harbor

This is an act of war with proportions greater than the attack on Pearl Harbor as innocent lives were murdered. Remember the words of Japanese Admiral Yamamoto at the conclusion of his successful attack on Pearl Harbor:

"I fear all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant."

This citizen of our giant has awoken and wants to help.

In Conclusion

Nothing seems more fitting to me now then the famous words of FDR

"We have nothing to fear but fear itself"

To give in to the terrorists now is to let them win. We MUST protect our individual liberty but we also must be prepared to have more airport security and major inconveniences as the government restores security to our country. The National Guard will be asked to help and I would consider anyone that riots or tries to take advantage of this horror to be enemies of America.
