On November 3, 2000 Wall $treet Week with Lousi Rukeyser will celebrate 30 years of broadcasting. I asked Steve Thompson, who writes a weekly summary of the show for us, to write a special article to celebrate the occasion. Thirty years of consistent excellence in financial Journalism is how to describe Wall $treet Week with Louis Rukeyser. I can not honestly say I was not a viewer in the early years of leisure suits and sideburns. I can say I have profited from every show I have watched. Early on I gained confidence from watching, I began to feel as one of the small fry I could have a chance at financial independence. One thing that always made me feel very comfortable was the wide range of opinions Lou allows on the show. The format of the show has changed little since I became a regular viewer. I regularly video tape the show and refer to the tape when writing summaries. What is the Secret to His Success? Thirty years is quite a milestone in any business. Holding the top spot for that long in the competitive world of Television Journalism is unparalleled. What is the secret to Rukeyser's success? I think he does not take anything for granted while at the same time Lou has a genuine passion for his work. He seems to have the ability to focus on all aspects of the show and produce quality from start to finish. The Set is always simple but elegant. The Production quality is superb. Add a highly rated panel and guests, many of which are in the Hall of Fame, intermix frequent very dry humor, sprinkle in special segments such as Professor Lou's classroom and you have the recipe for a long running show people do not want to miss. Like an Old Friend In reflecting on my life over the last thirty years I do remember a friend that always talked about this really cool guy named Lou. He inspired my friend to make his first investment while I was putting what little extra money I had in a pass book savings account. I will give you one guess which one of us has a higher net worth today. One thing I have gained in becoming a regular viewer is knowing there are many ways to make money at Lou's "financial party." Those that have subscribed to his Mutual fund newsletter know Louis Rukeyser will not hold your hand and tell you what to buy or when to sell. He will save you a little time and effort by narrowing down the list, but you make all the decisions. I believe this is called personal empowerment. |
