Introducing JB's Juicy Bits© John Brock King II
JB is a long time member of Suite101 who is one of the smartest young men I've met when it comes to investing. At the very early age of 24, JB was writing about and discussing saving for retirement with low cost mutual funds. I started saving when I was in high school. Saving, making wise investments plus living on less than I made allowed me to "semi retire" at the ripe old age of 41. Now my assets allow me to work on what I want to rather than what I have to do to make money to live on. I believe JB has all the skills to repeat the success I've had plus the skills to reach a younger audience an "old guy of 48" can't easily reach. I am quite happy to have him as a member of our "team" here to help others learn to invest wisely.
Kirk Lindstrom Meet JB Given the name John Brock King II, most folks call me J.B. if they know me at all. I was born and raised in the city of Chatham, Ontario. I grew up on American TV as we got most of the Detroit channels and my dad worked delivering milk for a living while my mom was a nurse. In High School, I got involved with Math contests from a nearby university where I got first in the county each year of those years. I also was involved in the yearbook and a few other extra curricular activities. The Math contests in the first few years where 25 multiple choice Math problems that I enjoyed figuring out for those I could and then for the others seeing what the solution was as well as how could I get to there from where I started. Solving puzzles and problems is still a hobby of mine and I do enjoy coming up with solutions and figuring out various tricks with some problems. I graduated as an Ontario Scholar, Canadian Scholar, and Descartes Scholar off to pursue studying Math and Computer Science at the University of Waterloo. University was a very interesting experience as it was here that I was rather humbled in my first year when I decided to take a couple of advanced courses rather than the general ones that most other students would take. I went from being one of the top students in a class to being near the bottom. I did survive and ended up with a pair of majors, Computer Science and Combinatorics & Optimization. During my university years there were many developments on the internet including the release of Netscape and people creating their own web pages to be viewed by browsers.
