… when the Internet goes down?

I’m stuck with that curious question this month. After having my computer running lovely for over 4 years, it has decided to somehow corrupt itself and destroy its connection protocols. Essentially, it means I can no longer access the Internet from that computer.

After a frustrating 6 hours of trying to get it to work again, I gave up. Shut off the machine. And walked away.

It came time to find something else to do. A pursuit that led to this article.

What do you do when the Internet goes down?

Inevitably, be it power outage or storm or a number of different clogs and problems in technology, you will not have access to the Internet. Below is a list of things that I occupied my time with.

Read a Book. Ah, my dear bookshelf has gotten dusty over the last few years. It is still fully stocked with far too many books that I have yet to read. Curling up in a sofa with a good book and a nice cup of hot chocolate is just the cure for those cold winter days. Or if you’re living in a warmer climate, pull out that patio furniture and pour yourself a big glass of ice tea, heavy on the ice please.

Create Something. I decided not too long ago that I wanted to start scrapbooking. I figured it’d be a nice way to have something for my child after she’s born. The only time I’d have to do this though would be when I get home. And home is the only place I can enjoy the Internet. So the second outweighed the first and I ended up being mindless on the Net rather than creative with the paper. Now would be a good time to get started on one. Perhaps it will be done before the baby is born.

Cook. Believe it or not, I use to love to cook. More so than cooking though I use to love to get new gadgets for the kitchen. Pampered Chef was one of my best friends. Since I started to work in the city, my commute home makes my nights very short. Thus the life online has pushed out the life in the kitchen. But without the Net, it’s time to hit the kitchen and make something fun again.

Shopping. I detest doing this but it’s a necessary evil. What’s even worse is you have to go during the hours the store dictates. Thank God for 24-hour Supermarkets, otherwise I’d never have anything in the house. But getting out and trying on things for yourself can be refreshing
