It's been difficult for me to write this, as it hardly seems to be a year already. I am fortunate. Those that I love who were in the vicinity all escaped without physical harm. I myself happen to have been on the last train out of the city at the time. But still, I can't help felling the pain each time I think about that day. Each memorial, each dedication, brings a tear to my eyes and a pain in my heart.
As we near the first anniversary of 9/11, we are sure to see many websites and many online remembrances the day. I've already received several invitations and requests to visit online memorials for that day. What I found most encouraging was that many of them focused on improvement, strength, building. One site caught my eye, spirituality.com. To quote from them, "Spirituality.com is an open-faith forum where people from a variety of beliefs and backgrounds share spiritual ideas, inspiration and prayers." Among the many forums and chats they have, they are offering several special open chats for 9/11.
The Internet has offered opportunities not only to share in our experiences but also to share in the healing and share in the memorials. One World One Minute is hosting a project where they are asking for people around the world to record one minute of their lives exactly at 12:48 GMT (8:48 AM ET) this September 1lth. It's a chance to "... to preserve a snapshot of the world, to reflect on where we are and where we are going and to offer others an insight into your world and your life." There are many, many events around the world taking place this September 11th. But even if you can't get out of the office to participate or are stuck at home that day, the Internet offers you opportunities to still share and be with others. Even here at Suite101 there are bound to be people in SuiteChat participating in this global day of remembrance. Go To Page: 1
