CyberCheating, is it real?

I have several personal friends who have dealt with online infidelity in their own marriages, be it web camming, chatting, viewing porn, sending and receiving x-rated pictures or creating online personal ads or all of the above! I thought by using my writing and web research skills, I could create a site that was supportive of the marital relationship and could help betrayed and wayward spouses heal their marriages. I really believe that the wayward spouse has to be confronted first though and admit his or her wrong-doing before that healing can begin. Thus, I offer software from my site so that the betrayed spouse can discover the truth and confront the wayward spouse. Because I am a contributing editor for Pregnancy and Childbirth at Suite101.com, I get a lot of e-mail from expectant mothers, some who have been affected by cyberaffairs that started during the pregnancy. I have a friend who is a marriage and family therapist who tells me that that pregnancy is one time when infidelity in a marriage starts and that there is scientific data to support that.

Maurenne started BustedYouOnline in June 2001. On the pages, she offers a variety of articles and information on some monitoring software. There’s also a link there to the "The Warning Signs of a Cyberaffair," courtesy of Dr. Kimberly Young of the Center for Online Additions.

Online sex addiction is a problem that is affecting more and more families in this day when technology has brought a powerful new array of temptations into homes and communities everywhere. Some people are hooked on romance, some on online relationships and some on sex and/or pornography. This addiction is a sign of a troubled self-image as well as a troubled relationship that lacks intimacy. I believe that your normal everyday man or woman, who normally would not seek out a real life affair, feel much more secure in their infidelities cloaked behind the perceived secrecy of the Internet...

So what can do you do about it? Stay tuned next time as we talk some more with Maurenne about opportunities out there to protect yourself and your family.
