Acronymity - the short language

The anticipation was building while I was waiting for Euchre to load. I was about to play the game online for the first time ever and I had no idea what to expect. I entered a lounge, chose a table, and greeted the players.

ME: Hi everyone!

MY PARTNER: Hi P!

Player 3: Hi opp!

Player 4: Welcome!

ME: opp? P?

ALL THREE: LOL!

ME: What?

Player 3: Newbie?

ME: No, I've played euchre for many years.

Player 4: IRL, right?

ME: Um, this game is in english, right?

My Partner: yes P!

Player 4: Newbie SITD

ALL THREE: LOL!

ME: WHAT'S GOING ON!

ALL THREE: Quit shouting!

ME: What? How can you hear me? What kind of game is this?

MY PARTNER: yh p

ME: What? Wait! I can't play and type at the same time.

We play a couple hands. My partner and I win some tricks.

MY PARTNER: wtg p!

ME: I think you forgot some letters because I don't understand you.

Player 3: nh

ME: What? Oh and good game partner!

MY PARTNER: tx! u2

ME: um, yeah

MY PARTNER: Where u from p? MorF?

ME: morf? umf

MY PARTNER: lol! f

ME: yipes! you understood what I wrote?

We play some more and the opponents win the game.

MY PARTNER: gga

ME: Are you ok? Do you need some H2O? hehe

Player 3: Opp, ICBW but IMHO your p needs help.

ALL THREE: ROFL!

ME: What?

MY PARTNER: p, partner, I think that you need to visit some sites to learn a little more about the language that's used on the net. I don't think you'll find everything that you need on these sites so never be afraid to ask for help.

ME: But you made fun of me.

MY PARTNER: Oh, that was just for this article.

ME: OIC.

MY PARTNER: Very Good!!! u r learning. Now here are some sites you can check out to learn a little more about this internet acronym stuff -

netlingo.com. An easy to navigate site with definitions for acronyms as well as other common terms used in internet language.

Acronym Finder. This site searches it's HUGE database to find the meaning of the acronym that you are looking for. You can search by the acronym or do a reverse lookup.

digital-women.com. Go to this page and print it for a quick and easy reference guide.

Silicon Valley Slang. Not necessarily about acronyms but here you can learn about other words to use.

Alphabet Soup Explained. Another good, searchable site.
