The Educational Internet Treasure HuntDid you know that visiting the Internet Playground can be a fun and educational experience? OK, I can hear you ask the following: "Educational? Doesn't that involve learning of some kind? Isn't the playground supposed to be a place to relax and have fun? Doesn't learning involve WORK?" Sit back, kids, because I have the answers for you. I think you'll find that this place on the playground that I'm about to introduce to you is more than a learning experience. It's really all about having fun! And what is the name of this game? It's an Internet treasure hunt sponsored by Cybersurfari.org. The reason why I liked this site so much was because it provided a challenging way to surf the Web. I've been on a couple of other hunts before and they've usually consisted of simple follow-the-links-'till-you-find-your-token. It seemed to me that the point of this method was to only give exposure to the sponsors of the game. But I found that I was so busy looking for the next clue that I really didn't pay attention to the sites I was cruising through. So for me, there was no challenge and no reason to play again. But what's so unique about the Cybersurfari hunt is that you have to use your brain a little to solve the clues and find your treasure code. You have to spend time looking through the site to find your answers. And in the process of hunting, you get to learn a little more about some really interesting web pages! Here's how it works: First, go to http://www.cybersurfari.org to register. You can sign up to play as an individual, as a family team, and school teams can participate too! The first hunt is set to begin on JUNE 21, so register now! At 3 p.m. that day, all registered hunters will start at the main page with a list of sites that lead to clues to find the treasure code. The more codes you find, the greater your chances of winning a prize! And, if you are one of the first three hunters (within each group) to find all the codes, you win the "speed competition." The last time I played there were over a hundred codes to find and it took me a while to do it so anyone who wins the speed competition is a pretty darn quick surfer. If this is something that interests you, I would go ahead and visit the site to get some more information. There you will learn more about who is sponsoring this hunt, why it exists, how to play, what you can win, and some practice sites for you to visit. My advice to those who play is to relax, don't think too deeply about a question (I over-analyzed a couple and found that the answers were much easier than that), and have fun! Oh, while playing, you might want to bookmark the sites that really interest you. I forgot to do this and had a hard time remembering what and where the sites were!
