Exit Brains: Next on TrailerVision

Chances are you might have already heard of TrailerVision, but in case you haven’t, here’s a short introduction before I get into the Exit Brains discussion. TrailerVision is all about movie trailers about movies which don’t exist. Its main premise is the trailer is the message, quite McLuhanish, if you ask me. Get it—not the movie, but the trailer.

It’s an interesting premise that has caught on to attract a loyal following not only in North America but around the world. It’s also got Hollywood enraged (although sometimes amused) by spoofing the current box office hit (ala Scary Movie). For example, the last TrailerVision special I saw was Exit Brains, a spoof of the recent Steven Seagal Movie. Why waste your time on this kind of stuff?

Well for one, it’s entertaining, and especially if you work in an office environment with free high-speed Internet connection. Don’t feel so guilty if you end up having so much fun since you deserve it if you happen to dig the high-stress work world. But if you’re pretty sure that Big Brother is watching (i.e., your company has a stringent Internet policy), don’t push it as you can get fired. If Management policy is somewhere in the middle when it comes to this kind of media, atleast do not go for the ones with too sexy undertones. Choose carefully what you want to watch. And this is not too difficult since from the pictures of the trailers alone, you can tell which one is too much for Management’s taste (yes, who knows if they’re watching it too as you are watching it on your work station?).

I hate to philosopize on something that runs for only a few minutes, so trust me, I won’t be like other film critics who beat the movie to death, even when they haven’t seen the film yet. Yes, Exit Brains is slapstick as it showcases an action hero called Cigar who gets so dangerous that he eventually becomes a threat even to his girlfriend. This is the worst thing that can happen to a relationship, if you ask me. Watch how the movie trailer expounds on this. But if you want more, sorry. You’re at the end of the line. This is as good as it gets. There’s no Exit Brains: The Movie. And even if you wait a million years, it’s not coming. So go ahead and watch what you can!
