Musical Score in Internet MoviesThe World of Movie Soundtracks One of the things I haven't discussed at length is how Internet Movies use music to enhance production quality. While I have enumerated some on-line studios where one can have one's Net film scored to professional satisfaction, I have left out one site whose chief purpose is to review famous movie soundtracks and to promote a healthy discussion as well as collaboration on the profession. This is Soundtrack Station (http://www.soundtrackstation.com). One thing I immediately noticed about this site is how easy it is to get into it or even navigate the site altogether. In spite of the fact that there are a number of graphics, not to mention MP3 files, its server doesn't seem to be overwhelmed unlike other sites I know. The site is also regularly updated with features on how soundtracks are effectively used in the latest films such as Unbreakable or Imax's documentary Everest. The site uses the Winamp console to play the music for you. I was so amazed at this feature. All you need to do is go to this site's page, http://www.gunnlace.com/tracks/mp3.htm and you can savor all the best soundtracks for both recent releases (X-Men, Unbreakable, The Patriot, Gladiator, etc. ) and even critically acclaimed movies (Jaws, Waterworld, Stargate, etc.). By that I mean you just click on the song title in the displayed soundtrack (labeled by movie title) and boom, the Winamp player comes up and immediately plays the MP3 with hardly any wait. The first time I tried this feature I just couldn't stop playing all those MP3's especially those from my favorite movie X-men. If you just finished your Internet Movie and you can't seem to figure out what kind of score you are going to put into it, it will help to visit this site and listen to the soundtracks available. Listening to all these greats have a way of perking up the genius in you! And when you want to purchase the movie's soundtrack, all you have to do is click the movie title and you are given more information about the film, the length of the soundtrack and other details-even the music genius behind it all. I should say that at the moment, music is not too much of a pre-occupation among Internet Moviemakers. After all, Net films are short. But as this industry matures you can expect musical score to play a much greater role in enhancing individual productions. Already, short films like Lucas in Love or Jimmy Ritz are employing this strategy. Some musical scores are even known to make a difference towards the box office performance of the movie.
