A New Day Is Dawning In the "old" days, using traditional cameras and labs in far-off "central processing" locations, you kinda got what you paid for. And you got stuck with what you shot. Like it or not...you either showed it around or it ended up in a drawer. Maybe the trash if it was REALLY messed up. Luck of the shutter, and the operator. Not no more! Things are changing in the field of photography faster than I can write. We are in that frozen moment after the explosion, but before the fission reaction. We are on the verge of the seminal event that implodes all previous paradigms, and creates a new reality...in a flash. That's what digital photography is. One of the biggest reasons it's so inevitible is COST! You buy a camera, some software comes with it, and there's some cables you got to stick into your computer. I'm a techno-dweeb school dropout, and I'm on my fourth digital camera setup. Piece of cake! Now...you have pictures in perpetuity...for FREE! No film, no developing, no labs, no mailing...FREE! What a concept. Makes you wonder if you ought to call your broker about that Kodak stock. But WAIT! Kodak is also a leader in DIGITAL technology, so don't make that call just yet. Besides, that ain't even the point I'm tryin' to make. Do what you want with your stocks. I'm sayin' that you NEED a digital camera. Even if you're a newbie to computers in general, and graphics programs in particular, you CAN do it. You can take great digital images, and make something even better of them. You see, with a little memory enhancement, digital cameras are POWERFUL recording devices. Seems you can shoot and shoot and shoot! A hundred or more images is real common, with just a modest upgrade in memory cost. As an example of one of the things you can do with a digital image, I'm gonna do a little "manipulation" for you this week. It's a lesson in sizing, and in color balancing, gamma correction, contrast and brightness control, as well as resolution adjustment, and maybe some cropping. In other words...we're gonna PLAY with an image again. Told you we were gonna do this last week. After Givin' This Some Thought It's difficult, and a waste of bandwidth, to show the steps in the beginning, because the image is large, and can't be displayed here at Suite101.com. For good reason, they have limits on the size of images they'll display. So, I need a way to "show and tell" without using the images "here." Same thing as before. The images are on my server, and you can view
