Beware of Domain Name Slamming

YES, and within a few days, the whole thing was done.

Some companies are complaining that Network Solutions (owned by Verisign) is making it too difficult and moving too slowly when it comes to these transfers. They are claiming that sending the YES/NO email, and only allowing five calendar days to respond to it before "NO" is assumed wastes time for people in a rush to transfer, and forces people who don't respond to the email to start the process over again. Personally, I don't see the problem. It moved very quickly for me. Within 24 hours, I had authorised the transfer to ItsYourDomain. Within 2-3 days, I got the email from Network Solutions, and responded to it immediately. Within 1-2 days, they acknowledged my YES (please transfer) choice, and indicated that it would be done. So the whole thing took less than a week. That's not bad considering that it was easy to do, it came right to me to my email, and I didn't have to call anybody's customer service line, stay on hold, and talk to someone who wishes he worked at Burger King.

How can I make sure a transfer does or does not go through?

Watch your email for references to domain names that you own, especially if you WANT a transfer to go through. You may have to OK the transfer twice as I did: first with the company you're moving to, and then with the company you're moving from. It's in everybody's best interest to check this with you so that slamming can't occur, so please be patient. Make sure you read the emails to correctly authorise or reject the transfer, and then do it immediately. Don't leave it for later since in 2 hours, it'll be buried and forgotten in your email's in box. And save the emails you get. Both companies confirmed my choices, and it's best to have records of those in case the transfer doesn't happen correctly or you somehow get double billed. Although I transferred my name away from Network Solutions, I am still getting invoices from them since according to their system, I am late in paying for a name I bought through them. Don't slip up and pay that if you've already moved that name to another company - you do NOT have to pay that bill since you do NOT want another one or more years of registration
