Forget the Cipro, knock on Saddam's door

Vancouver, Oct 22 - - The ultimate solution to the terrorist attacks, especially the recent biological ones, is not to hand out CIPRO antibiotics but to go on the offensive against those regimes which support or use terrorism as an extension of policy.

Where is the anthrax coming from? Good question. The obvious sources of anthrax are America and Russia. While Russia has been increasingly poor at securing their biological weapons it seems likely that they are not directly to blame. The Russian mafia or opportunistic and poor Russian scientists and soldiers may have stolen or sold it. Still then whom did they sell it to?

Some have suggested that it could be domestic groups operating within the United States but motive and timing seem way off for a militia group. The question to ask about this thought would be why now-where is the motive to escalate to bio-terror on news organizations?

More likely it is the sleeper agents of bin Laden continuing the attacks. Or even more likely it is agents of bin Laden with help from Saddam Hussein and Iraq.

Not all support for widening the war comes from within Republican circles. “As long as Saddam is there, Iraq is not just going to be a thorn in our side, but a threat to our lives,'' Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn., told reporters. Where was this guy during the 2000 election? But there is strong right wing support. William F. Buckley wrote in a recent article that, “The evidence at hand is not what we would need in a court of law. We would not, in 1942, have been able to prove that Adolf Hitler was exterminating the Jews.” His point is that we do not need conclusive proof to ask to see inside the country and see what Iraq is up to. In other words why wait for the other shoe to drop and awake one morning to find that there is a large-scale biological attack. Iraq is the reason for this fear. Only Iraq and before Russia have developed and stockpiled such a capacity for terror-Russia can’t deal with the weapons they have, and Iraq’s leader is just crazy enough to use them.

In 1991 Colin Powell, then Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, along with Bush 41’s National Security Advisor stopped short of eliminating the threat in Baghdad. Today Powell is back, now Secretary of State, and he wants to keep the coalition together again and be cautious. Hopefully Bush 43 will ignore the ‘dove’ voices in his administration and deal with this threat before something else happens.
