Freelance Writing and Your International Job Search

Are you a writer? Some of you may automatically say yes. Others may pause and think that this article doesn't apply to me at all. But wait. You may be a writer and not even know it.

Have you ever done any writing for your employer(s)? Think about it. Have you written proposals, business plans, sales letters, marketing material, or speeches? What about your volunteer activity? Do you write for an organization's newsletter, produce copy, or write brochures? If so, this material is the beginning of your portfolio and you can market yourself as a freelance writer.

Writers just don't write novels, short stories, and articles for glossy magazines. In fact, some quite successful freelance writers have never done any of these things at all. They make their living writing for a variety of clients and some of the most lucrative work is in commercial writing. And guess what? As long as you have an Internet connection, you"ll be able to find work and send in your projects regardless of your physical location.

So now that I have eveyone's attention, I'll continue with my original point. If you want to live abroad , you just might want to consider working for yourself as a freelance writer. Doing so may elimiate many job seach hassles and the red tape that can be associated with working for a foreign corporation. Even if you decide to continue your corporate job search it will give you an income and may allow you to legally spend time in your destination country while continuing your search.
