Pregnancy Journal

Jan. 16, 2002 I was afraid to write about this pregnancy too early, after the pain of miscarriage last time. Didn't want to get attached so quickly. But now, I feel little flutters and kicks and they're frequent reminders that I can trust that the baby is okay.

We found out about this pregnancy in October. I didn't have much nausea, but felt tired a lot. I ate a lot of cereal, because less bland foods made me naseous. We were very careful about me not doing anything strenuous or stressful, or being around any harmful chemicals.

We went to the midwife at a little over 11 weeks into the pregnancy. She thought she heard the heartbeat, then couldn't find it again for a couple of tense minutes. She said it was just moving around a lot. It was a relief to hear the heart beating.

I just love our midwife. She is everything I'd hoped for. She listens and isn't pushy. She's more into natural, instead of medical/interventive assistance. Sounds like she'll let Mike be as involved as he wants. She must have read our minds about him catching the baby, because she already asked him about it. Finding her just puts my mind at ease about the pregnancy and birth.

I started vomiting some in the fourth month..odd. It seems to have passed now though. I never started having contractions, cramps, or backache like I did the last pregnancy.

I am now almost 18 weeks and feel really healthy. Just this week, I started feeling movement more distinctly and it's so reassuring! I feel rolls and flutters and kicks. We've been picking out names.

Finally got to see my midwife again today. My checkup went well. My iron level was what they consider anemic, but she wasn't worried about it and said it just varies a lot from woman to woman and at different points in the pregnancy. I haven't felt that tired or anything. I think I'll eat more beans and eggs and things as a precaution though. The midwife is really big on nutrition. We talked a little about supplies and she recommends buying a kiddie swimming pool if I want the option of laboring or birthing in water. The baby is still transverse(side-lying) which she said is fine at this point. I am 30 weeks, measuring 29cm. The heartrate is 134 which Mike thinks suggests a boy. We need to pick out a boy's name!
