Censorware.Today, it seems as if the PC has taken over where the television left off, in so far as being a babysitter for America's kids. Parents have a colossal concern, though. With the advent of the World Wide Web comes a whole lot of uncontrolled, uncontrollable information. Uncontrollable until today, that is. Cybersitter® is a product that blocks unwanted web sites from your PC. Even for those of you parents whose kids have far surpassed your computer knowledge, Cybersitter can easily be downloaded and requires very little maintanence. The filters are Not a new product, Cybersitter got its start in 1993. Originally, the software was used to filter sites specifically for America Online and Compuserve. Two years later it hit the mainstream and was introduced for public use on the Internet. The software is mainly used by parents who want to block pornographic web sites from the eyes of babes. Also available to customers are filters that block out chat rooms, banner ads, Word macros, and sports and leisure sites. Does looking at that last list make you wonder about who else may want to use this? The boss perhaps? With new filters being requested by customers at a record rate, Cybersitter is considering filters for such categories as weapons dealers, violent videogames, and online casinos. Not your forté you say? Well, how crippled would you become if the boss was able to block out your day trading site, your MP3 player, or the auction you planned to bid on? It's all on the horizon.
