Not a new product, Cybersitter got its start in 1993. Originally, the software was used to filter sites specifically for America Online and Compuserve. Two years later it hit the mainstream and was introduced for public use on the Internet.

The software is mainly used by parents who want to block pornographic web sites from the eyes of babes. Also available to customers are filters that block out chat rooms, banner ads, Word macros, and sports and leisure sites.

Does looking at that last list make you wonder about who else may want to use this? The boss perhaps? With new filters being requested by customers at a record rate, Cybersitter is considering filters for such categories as weapons dealers, violent videogames, and online casinos.
