The Infertility Hub

Welcome to the Infertility Hub on Suite101.com. What this means to you is that there is now a collection of five topics that are connected together that will bring you information about infertility including book reviews, product information, health hints and tips, resources that you can use now, and how to cope with the diagnosis.

Before reading on, you probably want to know a little bit about the author. My name is Debbi Craig, and I have been the owner of an infertility/preconception support group at Yahoo for over five years now. My journey started over five years ago when my husband and I decided that we wanted to have a second child. My first pregnancy ended in miscarriage, and my greatest fear during my second pregnancy was that it would also end in miscarriage. After a slightly difficult pregnancy, our son arrived. It took many years to make the decision to try again.

My doctor had reassured me that as soon as pregnancy was confirmed, I would be closely monitored and considered a "high-risk" pregnancy. After a few months of trying, and following the advice in Toni Weschler's book "Taking Charge Of Your Fertility", we found out that we were pregnant. I called the doctor and had a blood test done. Unfortunately, within a week of the positive result, I was in the emergency room, and had again miscarried.

I was faced with secondary infertility of unknown origin. Basically, the doctor said that there was no medical reason for the miscarriages, and that I could try again in three months (or as soon as I felt able to), and that again, I would be closely monitored. However, I was also told that even though there was no "reason" for the miscarriages, my chances of having a third was over 50%.

After pulling myself out of a very deep depression, getting back to work, and back to my life, my husband and I decided that trying again was not something that I could physically or mentally do. So, I threw myself into helping others achieve their goal of conceiving. I had my support group on Yahoo and decided that the next step was to build a website for the group.

So, I learned about web development and design, and over the years the site, TTC Dreams, has grown to include over 45 pages of information including a monthly newsletter that anyone can subscribe to. I read all of the books that I could get my hands on, and wrote about what I knew and had learned over the years.
