Benefits of Infant Potty Training


-- Saves trees. It takes trees to provide the pulp for disposables, so by reducing/ending disposable diaper use, you cut down on the amount of trees felled for feces.

-- Landfill space. By reducing/ending disposable diaper use, you send far less garbage to our landfills. Even biodegradable diapers take a long time to decompose (over 100 years) in a landfill.

-- Less contact with chemicals. By reducing/ending disposable diaper use, you stop exposing your baby and yourself to chemical gels, dyes, glues and other synthetic irritants. This can eliminate diaper rash and allergic reactions.

-- Less use of chemicals. By reducing/ending disposable diaper use, you cut down on the use of chemical gels, dyes, glues and other synthetic irritants.

-- Less contact with urine and feces. Whichever type of diaper one uses, by reducing/ending use, baby does not have to come into (frequent) contact with urine and feces.

-- Conserve electricity. By reducing/ending cloth diaper use, you cut down on the use of electricity for washing and drying laundry; to a lesser extent, the same applies if you use a diaper service.

-- Cut down on use of fuel and air pollution. If you use disposables, you need to drive to a shop to buy them; if you use a diaper service, someone has to drive to and from your home for collection and delivery.

All of the benefits for baby (listed above) apply equally to parents since baby and parent are so closely linked. Parents want the best for their little ones, which means they want to communicate, be responsive and provide excellent hygiene. The environmental benefits apply to parents who are concerned about the environment. Most parents are conscientious, wanting to conserve natural resources, reduce pollution and cut down on the use of and/or exposure to potentially harmful chemicals. In their own individual way, parents of all walks of life can "make a difference" where the environment is concerned. Note that some of the benefits for baby and for the environment can also be classified as health and sanitation benefits.

One other benefit and joy for many parents is the ability to save on diapers and laundry. It's fun to be a tightwad. And for many, it's a necessity.
