Peanuts. Not only are peanuts a choking hazard but also if introduce to early; peanuts can increase the chance of allergy. In addition, peanut butter is hard to swallow which also pose a risk of choking.

Honey. Honey can contain botulism, which can cause food poisoning in young children (poses no risk for healthy older children and adults). Unlike other dangerous bacteria, botulism is not destroyed by safe cooking methods. Children should avoid honey at least until one year of age.

Egg whites. The protein in egg whites can cause allergic reaction. They should also be avoided until your child is at least one year old. Cooked egg yolks are okay after 9 months, because it is considered a meat.

Strained meat. Since your child's gastrointestinal system is still immature, excessive amounts of protein overwork young kidneys, which may lead to future problems. Again, wait until they are no younger than 9 months to introduce high protein foods including beans.

Wheat. This can causes an allergic reaction in children who consume due to the protein gluten. Try to wait until he or she is 8 or 9 months before introducing. Usually children grow out of this if they can't tolerate.

Citrus Products. Citrus products have been associated with food intolerances due to the high acid content upset baby's stomach. To be safe, do not give your child citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruits, etc. before 9 months of age. If concerned about your child's vitamin C, try baby foods with added vitamin C.

It's better to play it safe than sorry. Always introduce food individually and three to four days apart and look for signs of intolerance. And make sure food is small enough and/or soft enough to be safe for consumption.
