Synthcore vs. ColdwaveAll in all, they are just barely divided ideals in the great wealth of music that is industrial-rock. These styles just typify a very American sound that is often overlooked by the wealth of industrial listeners in favor of music that has more basis in European musical styles. Synthcore and Coldwave are to industrial-rock just what punk is to rock music: small, aggressive, edgy, and bitter. And they’re better for it. * (The anti-“industrial” ideal will be covered in a later column.)
