Derived from the pulp novels and swashbuckling cliffhanger serials of the 1930's, the setting of the Indiana Jones movies and T.V show crackled with an ambience that let the setting for his adventures to be shown between 1920 and 1940. The novels, are written to harness that pulpy style the films homage.

The books take place within that 20-year timeframe of Indy’s life and they introduce us to new characters, and old alike while keeping the essence of the character intact. Thanks to the efforts of a few authors, we get to continue the adventures of Indiana Jones.

In all there are 20 of these novels, and four authors. The first author to write a novel was Wolfgang Hohlbein. Unfortunately, his eight novels are only available in German. The other writers, all located in the U.S. are; Rob MacGregor (wrote six), Martin Caidin (wrote two), and Max McCoy (wrote four). The last book to be published was “Indiana Jones and the Secret of the Sphinx” in February 1999, written by Max McCoy.

Rob Macgregor was the first English-writing author to tap into the life of Indiana Jones between the television series and the movies after he adapted “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.”

According to Booktalk.com, “when Rob MacGregor began college, he was intent on becoming an archaeologist. By the time he graduated, he had switched to journalism and began a career as a reporter. MacGregor's interest in archaeology and adventure never faded. Between jobs, he traveled and visited ruins from Celtic England to ancient Greece, and from Aztec and Mayan Mexico to Incan Peru. By the time MacGregor became involved with Indiana Jones, he had traveled to all the places that Indy would go in his novels.”

The following is a guide to Rob MacGregor’s novels. All can be found on Amazon.com or through a search on Ebay.com for used book price.
