Halloween fun with Indiana Jones

When "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was released in 1981, Indy’s trademarked bullwhip, leather jacket and fedora became a perennial Halloween costume

Since 1993, I've dressed up as Indiana Jones every year for Halloween. And this year won't be any different. Putting together an Indiana Jones costume over the years has been fun and I look forward to future Halloweens. It is my favorite holiday and the Indiana Jones movies certainly offer a good time for the season. Creepy crawlers, skeletons, skulls, mysticism and dark caverns add to the atmosphere of Halloween.

With Halloween just around the corner, I thought I would give a guide to those wanting to dress up as Indiana Jones this year. There are all kinds of things you could do. This list is just to help you get started.

* Indiana Jones - This costume isn't that hard to put together. You can check out www.indygear.com to get a head-to-toe description of what Indy wears. Keep in mind the items they list are authentic clothing made by manufacturers who supplied wardrobe items for the movies. If you go for a total authentic look the cost would be well over $3,000. While that would be cool, it just may not be in your budget. Ebay.com always has items that could easily work for an Indiana Jones costume. There is still plenty of time before Halloween to find what you need and bid on it. You can also purchase an Indiana Jones mask at http://www.pranxsters.com/indianajones.h... A Sean Connery as Indy's father mask is also available. I've never purchased anything from this site so buy at your own risk. Last year http://www.amazon.com had both masks in their Halloween store but at the deadline for this article it wasn't up yet. Check Amazon.com for the masks also if you're uncomfortable buying at an unknown site.

* Go as a group. If you plan on attending a Halloween party you can add to the Indiana Jones look by having friends go as other characters. Even though Indy is male that doesn't mean women have to be left out. Marion Ravenwood or Willie Scott would make great costumes. Both characters wear a variety of outfits in "Raiders" and "Temple of Doom." One cute idea I've seen is a husband goes as Indy, the wife as Marion and a little baby boy or girl as the little monkey from "Raiders." Mola Ram, Sallah, Short Round, Henry Jones, a face-melting Toht or Thuggee guards would all make colorful and recognizable characters from the Indiana Jones "universe." I've always wanted to try and get someone to dress up as the giant boulder. I don't have the creativity with crafts to figure that out. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make a giant boulder costume I'd love to hear it.
