Warring Pakistan

The million-dollar question is whether India can replicate this strategy on its own against Pakistan? We cannot hope to win America's alliance in annihilating the present Pakistani regime and replacing it with an India friendly regime hostile to perverted Jihadis. If we can achieve this in a short period of time, then we can guarantee long term peace in the Indian sub-continent. If we cannot achieve this quickly, we cannot have long-term peace. The problem is that we cannot establish air superiority over Pakistan as the Americans did over Afghanistan or Iraq. Both 'Afghanistan and Iraq could not retaliate against American strength. India is bound to meet stiff resistance and suffer casualties because our might is not so unequal as Afghanistan versus America. Both of us are nuclear powers. This weapon is bound to be used if General Musharraf assumes his regime is substantially endangered by Indian attack.

Blowing terrorist camps across the border is likely to have a temporary anaesthetic effect because these to will be re-established. Unless the international community sees to it that they do not mushroom again. Israelis have been bombarding the Palestine's for nearly five decades. Peace has never been comfortable for them either. It doesn't stay for long. Rather peace comes in short gulps of air.

Therefore, going to war with Pakistan is not easy at all. We have to be very sharp in highlighting our objective very clearly. If we want permanent peace in this sub-continent, we must change the Pakistani establishment from the root. They derive their identity from being India's antidote. This is the feeling we have to change. Whether war does the trick or peace does the trick does not matter.
