On December 13, six terrorists attacked the Indian Parliament with an Ambassador car packed with explosives. Their mission being to blow the parliament and cause maximum casualty to the Indian leadership as well as morale. All of them were killed. Subsequent investigations revealed that the operation was planned and executed by Jaish-e-Muhammad and Lashkar-e-Toeba. Both terrorist organisations are based in Pakistan with ambitions of not only usurping Jammu and Kashmir but annihilating India as well.
The purging of Taliban in Afghanistan had raised expectations that perhaps terrorism in Kashmir would be minimized. Perhaps Pakistan by itself will curtail Jihadi groups based and operating from within their territory. However, the assault on parliament jerked us to reality. It confirmed the fact that Kashmir is our battle and we have to fight it out on our own. Perhaps the Americans won't help us out of the way. Instead of coming to their senses, the terrorists had reached our parliament. All sorts of people, whether they be journalists, military personnel, politicians, diplomats as well as common men, became conscious of a war looming close. Patience had run out. The more aggressive of us thought we should attack Pakistan and blow their wits out. The careful brigade cautioned about the reality of our nuclear capability, the hardships of war, the sharpness of objectives etc. The nation is undoubtedly behaving warrish, garish and hawkish. What can we achieve by attacking Pakistan? We have no enmity with them except for the terrorists they breed and unleash upon us. Will warring Pakistan stop terrorism? Many hawks in India have expressed the desire to bombard terrorist camps across the line of actual control in J&K. They have been craving to follow a pro-active policy. Many BJP leaders have cherished the idea of following the American and the Israeli pattern. They preach us to attack Pakistan as America attacked Afghanistan. They want India to act as Israel does with the PLO. Can we copy Israel or America? Certainly, there will be no problem as far as international justification is concerned if India bombs camps across the line of control in J&K. Nevertheless, results will be different. The ultimate aim of American attack on Afghanistan was to replace the terrorist friendly Taliban regime with a terrorist hostile liberal, democratic, modern and capitalist regime. They achieved this objective by winning worldwide approval for their action, which included the Islamic countries. Establishing air superiority over Afghanistan. Disabling Taliban war machine by sporadic regular bombing from the sky. Engaging the northern alliance to do the ground battle. These were parts of an overall strategy to capture Usama and Mulla Omar. Both the terrorist leaders are still evading. Go To Page: 1 2
